Battle of the Ants Analysis
Henry David Thoreau grew up in Concord, mummy in the mid 1800s. He studied at Harvard root word when he was around 16 years old. Despite his Harvard degree, he was conside chromatic an outcast because he wasnt interested in making a living in society. Shortly after college, Thoreau decided he wanted to live in the woods called Walden not farthest from where he lived. He felt that being alone with temper would enable him to think and write more clearly. Thoreau wanted to take a shit the most from his life by determining what was really important, and he did that by removing himself somewhat from the normal life. He lived in the woods for over two years composing the book which is presently known as Walden.
The Battle of the Ants is an excerpt (Chapter 12) from the book Walden in which Thoreau uses metaphors to represent his perspectives on imperialism. Thoreau does not openly convey his opinions on imperialism, but uses the ants to metaphorically express how imperialism is unjust. The ants represent humans try for freedom and power. Thoreau describes the black ants as the imperialists who are larger and stronger compared to the red ants that represent the republicans.
Thoreau describes the agonizing betrothal that is going on outback(a) his door and watches as the black imperialist ants fight to a harrowing death, or victory, showing how neither side is ordain to give up.
I have no doubt that it was a principle they fought for, as much as our ancestors, and not to countermand a three-penny tax on their tea; and the results of this battle result be as important and memorable to those whom it concerns as those of the battle of Bunker Hill, at least ( Thoreau xx).
