Nursing Homes: Are they well(p)?
The Byzantine Empire, 324-1453 AD, (an imperium derived from the Roman Empire) was dominated by Christian belief and focused on human oriented behavior. payable to their humanistic approach many public entities where created, for example orphanages, hospitals, breast feeding homes with a primary focus on geriatrics (Lascaratos, Kalantzis, Poulakou-Rebelakou). This empire is credited for the creation of nursing homes. With the aging population cosmosness primarily of emperors, empresses, and priest they determined that special care should be proposed for them. Often the care was provided by other nobles in their homes, and for those that were non a part of the elite i.e. the poverty stricken, convicts, and orphans the church provided their care. Ultimately, in the Byzantine days the focus was on providing care for those that could no longer provide care for themselves in the safest most nurturing sort possible.
In todays society the concept has greatly changed. The need to keep beds full with patients is often based on monetary rewards especially if funded by state or federal funds such as Medicare or Medicaid. The needs of the patients and their condom are often outweighed by a budget.
Often the administrators of nursing homes are in search of the almighty dollar, resulting in patients being abused, assaulted, neglected, and dying from maltreatment under the care of professional health care workers. I propose the questions are nursing homes actually safe?
