When you here museum the first thing that comes to mind, is old or antique. Most people fail to recognize art as being the gateway to the past. With show up art theres no way of knowing where weve came from. A museum is a place to reckon your heritage and a place to learn about others.
I took a trip to Cal-State University and visited the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum. This museum has three-art galleries: The Egyptian, Divas and Prom gallery. There were ii pieces of art in the Egyptian galley that really stood out to me. First we have the Relief Depicting a upgrade of Gods. This piece is make out of sandstone and comes from the Ptolemaic period near 304-30B.C. This procession once decorated the wall of a temple or shrine. Hapi, the god of the Nile heads the procession. He is shown with his traditional crown made of lotus and papyrus plants. He is followed by minute, the god of fertility. Min is shown wearing a crown with twin falcon feathers and a sun disk. The remaining gods are shown holding scepters in their effective hand and ankh in their left. The second piece of artwork is the Sekhmet. This estimate is blue glazed faience; it comes from the third intermediate period about 1055-715B.C.
Sekhmet is a lion headed goddess, she is shown sitting upon her throne holding a musical instrument. The musical she is holding is associated with a religious rite that is called a Sistrum. I went online and visited Olgas gallery. I was captivated by the work of Michelangelo. I started with a statue of David, which was carved out of marble and comes form around 1501-1504AD. The Bacchus was also very inspiring piece. Created around 1496-1497 by Michelangelo.
Do you view museums as repositories for valuable or as places to have a meaningful experience? I consider that you can view it both ways. They can count to be repositories because they do store art.
