In this quiz I have chosen to discuss the concept of realism in relation to British New Wave film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning by Karel Reisz. Realism as a film style was developed through the Italian Neorealist movement. Italian Neorealist directors were known for telling stories of poor working disunite expectantships in a very realistic and often hard hitting way. The films were often filmed on location and use non professional local actors to help enhance the realistic and unblemished intention of the plot. A vast majority of early Italian neorealist film told the harrowing and tragic stories of peoples sparing and personal struggle, as they faced the harsh realities and poor sustenance conditions of Post World War 2 inner urban center life. Scenes from realist films are often constructed of people standing around doing reasonably mundane tasks to emphasise the realistic intention. They commonly featured a child as the lead role, as this allows the viewer to get down the tragic impact of the War on so more children and families. Italian neorealist film style became world recognised in 1946 when Roberto Rossellini made Rome Open City.
The film clearly represent the venerable struggle of every day Italian people, as they try to resist the difficulties they faced under German sedulous Rome. This changed film forever as it didnt follow tralatitious cinematic trends.
This opened doors for film makers, as realism as a style meant you could literally shoot anything. This gave them the opportunity to visually tell the true stories of human reality.
